West Ealing Bowls Club women's hopes of success in the Bowls England Top Club were dashed as they lost their last-32 tie against Eastbourne. Played at neutral Horsham, the clash was a tight affair and always looked likely to be decided on shot difference. At halfway West Ealing held the upper hand - with the match tied 2 legs each and West Ealing ahead by 12 shots. However, the Sussex side had the best of the second half and despite West Ealing running out winners in the pairs and fours, the 2-2 outcome meant Eastbourne ran out 83-75 winners. It is now up to West Ealing men, who will face North Sheen in their last-16 match at Brentham on September 2nd.
West Ealing's Chris Ryan had mixed fortunes at the National Championships Under 25 Singles. In the first round he fought back to overcome Cambridgeshire 21-15, but fell in his second round match, losing out 21-16 to Surrey.
West Ealing's hopes of Richmond & Barnes League success improved after two strong performances. Firstly they overcame Putney Town 65-30 to gain a full four points, with the rink of Dave Carter, Eileen Entract, Roy Bond and Robin Innes running out 30-14.
They followed this with an impressive 68-46 victory over rivals North Sheen, grabbing three of the available four points. Top honours went to the quartet of Dave Carter, Duncan Slaughter, Rob Green and Dave Ayton, who ran out 30-15 winners. They now have a three point advantage at the top of the table, with just two matches remaining
