Bowls England 2022

Bowls England have recently released details of their plans for National Competitions and Championships (which would also apply County competitions, as they feed in to the Championships). This includes details of formats and provisional dates for Leamington.

The main info regards formats. The controversial formats used in some competitions for 2021 have been amended.

Pairs - 18 ends, 4 bowls each

Triples - 18 ends, 3 bowls each

Fours - 18 ends, 2 bowls each

Full details can be found by clicking here

As per 2021, these formats will only apply to those competitions which end up at Leamington. It is NOT expected that they will apply to thing like Whisky Pairs, Middx Mixed, Middx League, or anything for other associations (E&D, R&B, TV, L&SC, etc)

West Ealing's Week Ahead (Updated)

It's a busy week ahead for West Ealing. On Monday, the men's Middlesex Fours move to the 5th Round stage. Robin Innes takes his team to Masonians and Rob Green's quartet head off to Ladygate.

On Tuesday, the men's Senior Fours takes centre stage, with both West Ealing sides away - Robin Innes off to Cambridge Park, whereas Paul Cater's side head to Masonians.

On Thursday, West Ealing play Rosedale in the Middlesex Double Fours. Then on Friday, any of our teams who are successful on Monday, will play the 6th Round of the Middlesex Fours (more info after Monday's results).

If I have missed out any outside comps, please let me know and I'll add them in.

With the First Round of club comps closing on Wednesday, there will be games on most days, so why not come down to the club to watch some bowls?

Sunday Round-up

There were mixed fortunes for West Ealing bowlers on Sunday.

Those representing Middlesex returned from Oxfordshire empty-handed, with the women's Walker Cup team featuring Sue Butcher losing out by 2 shots, and the men's Balcombe Trophy side including Jay Head and Craig Hill going down by 10 shots.

Back at Mervyn Road, Weest Ealing ended their involvement in the London and Southern Counties Shield, with a 5-shot aggregate defeat to North Sheen.

However, in the Thames Valley 1-2-3, West Ealing easily overcame Hounslow Cons, winning all three elements.

Sunday at Mervyn Road (27th June)

For those of you not travelling to Oxfordshire to support Sue, Jay and Craig (see below), why not come along to the club on Sunday morning. There are two competitions taking place.

Getting underway first is the home rink of the London and Southern Counties Shield tie against North Sheen (10:00am start).

30 minutes later sees the start of the Thames Valley 123 tie against Hounslow Cons.

Your support would be greatly appreciated by all concerned.

Good Luck to Our Players

Good Luck to three West Ealing members who are tomorrow (27th June) representing Middlesex at the highest level.

Firstly. Jay Head and Craig Hill are in action for the Middlesex Men's Balcombe Trophy side, who travel to play Oxfordshire at Headington (10:30 start).

Later, Sue Butcher is in the Middlesex Women's Walker Cup team who also travel to play Oxfordshire, this time at Banbury Chestnuts (13:30 start)

Both competitions are double fours format, for those selected as the best eight player from each county.

Captain's Near Miss (26th June 2021)

Commiserations to captain Paul Wilsher who lost out by just one shot to Harefield's Richard Merritt in the Area Final (AKA the quarter final) of the Middlesex Two Woods held at Hayes.

Brentham (Middlesex League) match moved

The Middlesex League game at Brentham, scheduled for this Sunday (27th June) has now been moved to Sunday 11th July (3pm start).

This was at the request of Brentham.

The friendly fixture against Brentham, has been similarly moved, although this will now be a maximum of one triple (as Brentham currently only have four usable rinks) and is subject to numbers.
